He receives a Masonic funeral tomorrow. Wangakdi, Thursday. The dwelling-house belonging to Mr Harrison Gibson was totally destroyed by fire last night. It was insured in the National for jE2UO. The furniture was all Bayed. CiiKtsTCHURCii, Thursday. Mr Bills, the well-known ornithologist, arrived from Australia in the Arawata. He proceeds to England on behalf of the Canterbary Acclimatisation Society for the purpose of selecting some £200 worth of birds, — The railway authorities hope to be able to run through trains to Dunedin to-morrow. — Twenty-four fishing liceuse3 have been taken out. The season commenced yesterday — At a meeting of the Eire Brigade last evening 'it was resolved to ask the Dunediu raea to take part in the demonstration of the 16th mat.—A chess match by {telegraph between the Christchurch and Wellington clubs has been arranged to commence on Saturday evening— A raid was made upon the bakers yesterday for the purpose of making an analysis of their bread. Out of 12 samples, ten were found very good, one indifferent, and one very bad. Steps will be taken against the latter, which was also found very short weight, under the " Adulteration of Foods Act."
