fPREBB AGENCT."! Ltttelton, Friday. Arrived— Ship Crusader, from London, after a passage of 90 days from the Downs and 82 from land to land. She brings 62 passengers, all well. She had a moderate weather passage; crossed the Equator on the twenty-sixth day out. She has a very large cargo, and a fine thoroughbred horse. Ashburton, Friday. Further floods have occurred in the Ashburton and Rangiora rivers through the snow melting on the mountains. The Ashburton broke through its northern bank, about two miles from the town, in two places getting into an old watercourse. The current found its way into the town, which would have been flooded to a considerable extent had not the Borough Couucil got men to confine it to West-street by means of a channel especially cut; as it was, the station master's house was completely surrounded, and the occupants of several small places were flooded out. Another span of the Eangitata bridge has given way, and the train cannot cross. Mails and passengers; however, are taken to and fro O7er the bridge by means of trollies, thus little delay takes place in the traffic. Ahaura, Friday. Ifc has been raining heavily, accompanied by a strong wind, during the last twenty-four hours, and there is no appearance of clearing un. The rivers are rising rapidly, Traffic is suspended, and floods are expected. Grktmobth, Friday. At a trial of two hundred weight of quartz, not picked, from Bodsel's lease, next to Langdou's, crushed yesterday at the Foundry, it gave a return of over two ounces to the tou. It has been blowing a live gale from the north-west since last night with heavy rain. The steamer Wallabi crossed the bar this morning from Wanganui, stock laden. In the afternoon, after getting inside, she was blown right back, and narrowly escaped stranding-, being in the surf a long time, but ultimately got to sea. Seven thousand and Beven ounces of gold were shipped yesterday, per Alhambra, from Greymouth. There is every probability of a big flood. Wellington, Friday. At a meeting of the Rifle Association, Major Baliie in the chair, it was announced that the Governor had agreed to become Patron of the society. It was resolved to subscribe to the National Rifle Association of England, and thereby obtain the Association's medal for New Zealand competitors. The holder of this medal will be entitled to compete for the Queen's Prize in International contests in England. Christchurch, Saturday. At a meeting of the General Committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening to arrange about the Australian tour of the Canterbury Eleven, it was resolved not to play the Invercargill Eighteen on the ground that the time at their disposal would not allow of it. It was, however, resolved to play Bendigo and Tasmania if the time allowed. Daring the meetiug it was stated that a challenge might be expected from the Otago men on the return of the team. It was said that the expense of the trip would be £500. ( »ue of those present said he was himself prepared to guarantee £200. A public meeting will be held on the .subject next week. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court terminated last night. The nuiprius commences on the 21st instant. It is stated that the traffic on the Northern line is completely stopped this morning.
