ACCIDENT TO THE KENNEDY.

Greymouth, Wednesday This morning ihe s.s. Kennedy, while crossing the bar outward bound, touched the ground apparently gently. Captain Palmer thought nothing of the occurrence, but when about a mile away the steward informed him that the saloon was flooded. The Captain then returned over the bar, the water gaining rapidly and by the time the vessel reached the wharf the water was nearly level with the saloon table. It is supposed that in crossing the bar she had struck on a stone from the protective works which knocked a hole in her bottom. Great credit is due to Captain Palmer for bringing the steamer back in safety as she could not have floated many minutes longer.
