The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1878.
Ouu telegrams inform us that two Europeans have been warned oil: the native lands Dear New Plymouth by some Maoris. This might have had a serious meaning but for the explanation afforded that it might have been to ensure their own safety that the trespassers were refused permission to proceed, and it maybe that they are indebted to the natives forjtheir lives being spared. Mr Thornton, who is busily engaged in painting scenery for the occasion, announces that on the 13th and 14th inst., he means to put upon the stage the beautiful drama "Colleen Bawn " which had so tremendous a run at home. We wish Mr Thornton aud his company every success. The Nelson Rowing Club intend opening the season by a procession, of boats on Saturday next at three o'clock, ifc bas been decided, we understand, to order another pleasure boat.
