The Herald reports a comical mishap that occurred to the congratulatory telegram sent from Auckland to Lord Beaconsfield and Salisbury on the result of the Berlin Congress. The concoction of the telegram was a work of some time and difficulty; the problem being to express the public idea in as few words as possible, so as to make a judicious combination of frugality and patriotism, The solution, wp at length
a'rrived at to the satisfaction of those engaged tlpon it, and the cablegram was sent oft' addressed, '•' Beaconsfleld Salisbury, London," Next drfy, what was the horror o'f the Town Clerk and the entire Council, fo get a telegram, purporting to co:ne from Adeo, "Xo such firm, cannot deliver." The result was, that a pound or two more liad to lie subscribed, and the: words "Lords" inserted, and with that addition the message went ;sll right.
