Auckland, Monday. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association has accepted tenders for buildings costing £I?00 for their show on 9th November
Tuesday. The City of Sydney arrived this morning, being a day before her contract time. Cabin passengers— Messrs A. Ilesker, ,T. R. Newton, Ileury, Hong, 11. McNeil, James George, John Gummell, James Webster, A J W Gillarty, S. 11. Heacock, M. Halfotd-.' and eight in the steerage. ,_, . , Wellington, Monday. To-night s Cnronicle says that at a meeting of the Government supporters, it was admitted by a majority of the speakers that in view of the great pressure of private Bills the numerous Colonial measures introduced by the Government could not all be passed this session. Some of them would have to be deferred. After considerable discussion, the meeting indicated the following measures as those which may be dropped this session without destroying the scope and harmony of the Government policy:— Friendly Societies. -Local Judicature, Repeals, Executive Council or, Licensing, Bribery, and some other lsills of secondary importance. The Bills which will be proceeded with are the Electoral, Companies Income Tax, Beer Duty, Customs Tariff, Land Tax, Public Revenues, Railways, Native Lands, Special Powers and Contracts, Sheep, and Disqualification No. 2. It is understood that the Beer Duty Bill is safe, but that considerablo opposition will be encountered to the Companies Income Tax Bill. It is understood that the Premier has intimated to the Ministerial supporters since the meeting that the Government will at all times be glad to be en rnppurt. with them, and that the recommendations made with regard to the measures to be proceeded with or dropped, will be brought under consideration at a full meeting of the Cabinet.
Tuesday. Ihe Government have acceded to the application made on behalf of the principal morning journals of the South Island for a special wire from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m., but in the case of Timaru and Oamaru to 1 am. ouly.
Chbistchukch, Tuesday. The Austrian, Maurice, has been acquitted on the charge of stabbing. The evidence was of a rery contradictory character, and the Magistrate stated that the charge was a trumped-up one, and of a most trivial character.
Mr Chaplin, the tragedian, opened in " Hamlet" last night to a large audience, and the performance was a great success. A man named Thomas Sharplan, of East Oxford, was yesterday killed instantaneously b}' a log falling on him.
There were twelve persons nominal d for the Council, about half of whom are Mr Wilson's nomirees. The polling takes place this day week.
Blenheim, Monday. William Weaver was drowned in crossing the Wairau river by the upselting of a dray on the ford.
G. Stenhouse was committed for trial on a criminal information for libel against Alfred Rogers, solicitor, in a letter addressed to a client.
