We take the following from the New £eal<tr,der of yesterday :-The Nelson and Marlborough members waited upon the Hon the Minister for Public Works yesterday morning. Mr Curtis explained that they had waited as a deputation ten or twelve days ago with the view of getting the public works proposals reconsidered so as to enable the main trunk line to be carried on through Marlborongh and Nelson at once. On that occasion the Minister for Public Works promised to bring the matter before the Cabinet They now wished to ascertain the result of that representation. Mr Macandrew replied that he was not yet in a position to give a definite answer as to what Government intended doing. The matter has been mentioned in the Cabinet, and it was arranged that further luformatioa should be obtained before the final determination was arrived at. That information had not yet been secured. Mr Richmond inquired if Mr Macaudrew thought there was any likelihood of the proposals made by the deputation being embodied in the Bill. Mr Macandrew thojght not, as a work at all events for immediate construction, He could not say what the Government could be induced to do His own personal opinion was that the public works proposals, as made, should not be altered. In reply to further remarks he (Air Macandrew) informed them that a definite answer would be forthcoming at the end of the week, The C. K. B. Minstrels will give the last of their evening performances to-night for which occasion a most excellent and attractive programme has been prepared, including Mr bimonsen's exquisite violin solo " The bird on the tree" which alone will be well worth going to hear. Mr Simonsen at last night's entertainment delivered a short address to the audience complaining that he had not been patronised as he expected, and announced that to-night the prices of admission would be reduced to three shillings, two and one These low rates, together with the excellence of the entertainment, which comprises new specialties by Messrs Cheevers and Kennedy, and Mr Bent's latest oddities will doubtless have the effect of fillin°- the house. To-morrow there will be an afternoon performance, at which children will fee admitted at half price all over the house A party of those interested in the Aniseed Valley Copper Mine were to have visited the mine to-day, but owing to the wet weather their visit was compelled to be postponed An open meetiDg of the Loyal Nelson Lodge of Good Templars will be held in the Temperance Hall this evening. A general meeting of the members of the V.M.C.A. will be held this evening when Judge Thomas is expected to be present We have received from Auckland a pamphlet entitled " Waiwera hot springs the sanitarium of New Zealand and the Australian colonies." It contains an interesting account of the history of these springs and of the native traditions connected with them an analysis of the waters, and testimonials from many well-known colonists and others as to their efficacy, especially in cases of acute rheumatism. A London telegram to the Pest dated 14th instant eays: -It is rumored that a plot to assassinate the Emperor of Germany has just been discovered in Berlin. The combination is said to be of Socialist origin, and several suspected persons belonging to that organization have been arrested.
