The Wellington left Wellington at one p.m. to-day, will arrive here to-morrow morning, and return to Picton and Wellington at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Taranaki leaves Wellington to-morrow afternoon, will arrive here on Saturday morning, and sail at three p.m. the same day for Taranaki and Manukau. The Maori, which left Lyttelton at 3-30 p.m. yesterday, was not signalled up to the time of our going to press. She leaves for West Coast ports to-morrow at 10 a.m. The Pelorus arrived from Havelock last evening. • She returns to the same port at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and for the future will make weekly trips to Havelock. The Taiaroa left Onehunga on Tuesday morning, and arrived off New Plymouth at daylight yesterday; landed a large batch of cargo, and sailed for Nelson at 11 a.m., arriving here early this morning. She came into harbor at 1 1 a.m., and sailed for Wellington and South by the same tide at noon. The Helen Denny is now more than half discharged, and the middle of next week will see her rid of the Nelson portion of the cargo. What has already been landed has come ashore in excellent condition, showing that every care has been taken in the stowing of the cargo, and thus reducing the claims upon the vessel to a minimum. The vessel will commence ballasting before the whole of the cargo is landed. En passant the barque has been considerably improved in appearance by the judicious application of a coat of point. We are glad to notice that hematite paint was used for the primary coat, thus showiug that the efficaciousness of this paint as a preservative of iron is being recognised by Home shipowners.
