PAYING IMMIGRATION TO NELSON.
To the Editor op the 'Evening Mail., Sie,— lf any comment were needed byway of illustration of the remarks which have lately appeared in your columns it would be furnished by the fact that within the last few days parties have come up from Dunedin looking for residences; one, at all events, has found what he was in search of, and more would follow if we had communication. There are numbers of professional men, of merchants, and wealthy traders, who do 'not always care to remain in places where they have made their money, in fact they need the repose which change of scene can give ahd advantages such as Nelson can give in the way of education, at least for boys, and I hope soon for girls. A very harmless luxury is tbat of change of scene, and the busy life of the 1 9th century requires it, and Nelson can fairly challenge her sister cities to competition in this respect. What we want is: (1) Communication with the South and West Coast. (2.) Good hotels, with branches afc Motueka and Collingwood. These would pay better than many of our capital-stinted companies, which do more harm than good. If tbis Government will not return us the power we once had of getting these things in virtue even of the land whose merits it suits them just now to run down, then I, for one, re-echo the cry " send for Yogel." 'He at all events, is a colonial not a provincial statesman. — I am, &c., An Elector.
