In reference to the murder of (a Native woman at Waiapu, Inspector Scully reports that the body was exhumed, and an inquest was held at Wai para, when medical evidence having been taken, the inquest was adjourned to Gisborne, where the inquiry will be resumed to-morrow. The jury, prisoners, and witnesses have all been taken down to Gisborne. It is expected the enquiry will last a week. Blenheim, Wednesday. A maa named George Orchard had his nose bitten clean off by a man named Ben Jones, on Sunday night, in a drunken brawl in Whittled Hotel, Kaikoura. Hokitika, Thursday. The Alhambra arrived last night, having left Melbourne on the sth instant at 2*45 p.m. She experienced strong head winds and heavy seas throughout. No passenger list has yet come ashore. Timaeu., Thursday. The Court enquiry on the wreck of the barque Mekose is concluded. The Court attributes no blame to the officers or crew. There was aot sufficient evidence to enable the court to express an opinion on the state of the hull.
