LADIRB AND GENTLEMEN,— At the request of a number of my fellowcitizens, I have consented to become a Candidate for one of the vacant s:ats in the City Council. If elected, I will uae my best efforts ta carry out stricter economy in the expenditure of the Corporation's funds I shall oppose the asphalting of footpaths (as per ' ■ample in Bridge- s'reet), at least until the streets in the outskirts of the city are rendered safe and passable to foot passengers. I would support a good (instead of the present unsatisfactory) system of drainage for the city, bslieving it to be of the utmost importance to the future prosperity of Nelson to make it at e'eaa and healthy a piace of residence as possible. Iwi 1 also support an extension of the waterworks main horn Brook-street to the Waimea road, with a view to give our College, Hospital, ard Lunatic Asylum, a better s«pply of water, which is greatly neede 1, and also becausa I believe it would be for the benefit of tte city. I remain, Your obsdient servant, T. H. STRINGER. Waimea-atreer, September 9, 1878. 3948
