[PBfeSB AGENCT.I Wellington, Tuesday. The Governor and bis private Secretary left for Lyttelton at eleven this morning in H.M.S. Nymphe. It is [intended to do the trip under sail if possible. Tisiamu, Tuesday. The entertainment for the shipwrecked sailors last night realised £36 I3s. Subscription lists have been opened to further assist them. The following are the insurances on the vessels wrecked .-—Barque Jlelrose, £350 in the South British ; the brigantine Lapwing, worth about £3500 was fully insured in the New Zealand; the ketch Fanny iv the ssme for £500. It i 9 not known in what office the ketch Glimpse was insured Captain Evans, of the ketch Palmerston was drowned on Sunday night. Two of the Paltuerston's crew were saved, being picked up by the crew of the Melrose. The ketch Fanny has broken up, and scarcely a vestige is to be seen. The lessees of the Government lauding service have '.taken possession of the Palmerston, and a salvage claim will be the result. The Lapwing was found to be uninjured, except the false keel knocked away, and part of the copper stripped off The outward cargo of wheat and flour was saved, and will be sold to day. The Glimpse is high and dry. The hull is sound. Her cargo of preserved meat will also be sold today. Dunedin, Tuesday. It is expected that the southern railway from Dunedin to Invercargill may be completed within six weeks from the present time. Robert Dagg, a well-known Otago wrestler has accepted the challenge of Thomas, of Victoria, to wrestle for the championship of the colonies. The match will probably take place at Dunedin in November. Several deputations are prepared to wait upon the Minister for Public >Vorks, should he visit Dunedin during the week. j
Duncan Cameron was this morning committed for trial, for having sworn falsely in a sly grog selling case recently heard in the Police Court. Blenheim, Tuesday. Ine Liberal Reform Association passed the following resolutions last night:— "That this meeting regrets to learn that the Government works policy excludes Marlborough and Nelson from participation in the proposed schemes."— " That the policy is calculated to benefit only a portion of the colony while every part will have to bear the burden of taxation."—" That this meetregrets to learn that our members are powerleßs to obtain any amelioration of the scheme in favor of Marlborough and Nelson." CiißisTCHUiicii, Tuesday. Ihe Mayor has convened a meeting for to-morrow evening to consider the new tariff. At a meeting of the Waste Lands Board yesterday, 16,000 acres were disposed of for £33,000. The prospectus for a Temperance Hotel on a. large scale will be issued in a few days. The tide rose eighteen inches above the ordinary level on Sunday. It is supposed to have been a tidal wave.
