The French Government have postponed the distribution of the Exhibition prizes to October 21st, in order to secure the presence of members of Parliament aud other eminent visitors. There is great discontent in consequence amongst exhibitors, a deputation of whom requested the awards to be published immediately. The matter was referred to the Minister of Commerce. The report of the Rhodope Commissioners confirms the worst of the outrages committed by the Russians and Bulgarians, the British, French, Italian, and Turkish delegates||agreed on a report, to which the Russian aud German delegates refuse their signatures. The Austrian delegate was absent through illness. Disastrous floods have taken place in the Tyrol The destruction of property i 3 immense. It is probable a compromise will be agreed to re the cession of Batoum, the people paying tribute to Russia, aud maintaining the present institutions and existing officials . The Australians are playing eighteen of Hastings. In the first innings of the latter, ten are out for 104 A strong team. August. 27. The Government have accepted the tender of the P. and O. Company for the conveyance of the India and China mails for eight years from February, 1980. Cricket. — Hastings' first innings closed for 131. Three of the Australians are out for 190 ; Bailey not out, 100 ; Murdoch, not out, 1. Later. The first innings of the Australians closed for 260; Bailey 106, Murdoch 73. In their second innings Hastings scored 82. Spofforth took twelve wickets. The Australians won in one innings with 47 runs to spare.
