The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 1878.
The Customs receipts for the week ending tbis day were £530 13s 9d. A confirmation will be held itt Christ Church to-morrcw evening by the Bishop of Nelson-. The Bishops of the Church of England in New Zealand have decided to set to-morrow apart as a day of thanksgiving for the pre. servation of England from the horrors of war, and special services will consequently be held in all the English churches in the colony ou that day. The football match between the Wellington and Nelson College teams commenced shortly after one o'clock this afternoon. Up to two o'clock the sole result had been the dislocation of M'Hardy's right elbow, which was caused by his being thrown down in a run or a scrimmage, or something of the kind, and landing on his elbow. This necessitated the transfer of one of the best players on the Nelson side from the football ground to Dr Earrelle's surgery. After two, tho game continued equally uninteresting, aud when ths last bout was finished both sides were " as you were." It will be seen by advertisement that the business of the Hardy-street atables is still being carried on, and customers may feel sure of receiving the usual attention and civility from the well-known "Jem Lucre."
