In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, Joseph Jessop, charged with having a still, which formed the subject of recent convictions, in his possession prior to the men recently sentenced, was convicted, and will be sentenced to-morrow. The principal evidence against Jessop was a letter found on M'Donough on his arrest. New Plymouth, "Wednesday, The Hawea showed up at halfpast seven this morning, but owiug to a heavy surf she could not be communicated with. She therefore left at eight o'clock. Considerable an::iety is being felt respecting the steamer Kaiunia, which left Waitara for Manakau last Wednesday with cattle and sheep, and has not since been heard of. Some dead sheep have been washed ashore near Raglan, from which it is surmised, that she is lost. Judge Thomas has been distributing printed papers in Maori amongst the natives. Jt is intended that an influential deputation, consisting of the Mayors of the various Boroughs and chairmen of the County Councils, shall interview the Premier and the members of the General Assembly on their arrival at Christchurch, on the subject of the extension of the railway from Amberley to the West Coast. A man named Henry Cross and his daughter, three years old, have been missing for several days. It is thought that the man was insane, and that harm has befallen him and the child.
