The Kentish Tar hove up anchor shortly after noon to-day and set sail for Napier bhe has had a longer stay than is usual with i^nghsn vessels, over six weeks having elapsed since her arrival here. The causes of this protracted stay were numerous. Uirstof all the barque had to lie in the stream for two days while a berth was being got ready for her at the Government Wharf but the chief cause of the delay was the desertion of her hands shortly after she came_ into port. Sailors being now at a premium in the colony Captain Pottinger cad some difficulty in procuring a crew and it was only after Wellington had been hunted nigb and low that he managed to secure a fewsoamen. As it was he had to offer a good figure, and give a month's pay in advance, which one or two unprincipled ones took, and the captain never saw any more of them While in port Captain Pottinger and the officers of the Kentish Tar made many acquaintances, and carry back with them to the old country favorable impressions of this their first visit to Nelson. The s.s. Murray arrived in harbor yesterday from the Waitara. She left Nelson at " 0 clock on Friday, the 26th ult., for New i'lymouth, arriving there next day at 3 p m but was only able to land a small portion of ncr cargo the sea being too heavy. She stood off that evening and came to an anchor but a gale springing up and the eea haviug made considerably, at 4 a.m. n n the 28th she weighed anchor and there being no chance of getting tendered at New Plymouth for several days ran into the Waitara river where she arrived at 8.30 a.m. same day discharged cargo and got a charter of cattle and sheep for the Manukau, but in consequence of the bad state of the weather did not get away until noon on Saturday, the 3rd inst. Crossed the Manukau bar at noon on Monday, the sth, a tremendous sea being on the bar, but the little boat behaved admirably; was detained in the Manukau until Thursday waiting for coal, when she started at 2 p.m., with a full frieght of store cattle and general cargo for Waitara, arriving off the bar at 8.30 a.m. next day, but too late for the tide. Crossed the bar at 530 p.m., discharged stock and cargo took in a quantity of tallow, &c, and left for Nelson at 7.30 p.m. on the 10th, arriving here as above.
