A TURKISH AGONY COLUMN

The "agony column" of the Turkish newspapers (says the Pall Mall Gazette) ars filled with advertisements for lost relations, having painful evidence of the dispersion of families of the Mussulman population which has taken place iv the districts ravaged by war. The following, which appears in the Vakit, is a type of many others of a like nature :— " Havidji-oghlau Ahmet, the huntsman of the village of Kutchukobe, in the district of Kfzanlik, hag got separeted from the following members of his family, whom he lost during thfir flight from their native village : His wife Kalidge; his son Ali, a-jeiflO years, his mother Emioe; his auut Zsine!; and his daughter-in-law, Zuhr». Moreover, Fescooghlou, Mahmound, the fat-cheeked, belonging to a village more to the south of K>zaniik, haa losr, under like circumstances, his wife Nrfisse, his son Abmfif, his daughter Zebu, bis brother Oaman, and his brother-iu-!nw Solax-Ibrahim, Ibrahim the left-banded. It is, therefore, hereby made known to all whom it mny concern, that the two bereaved persons above named, Havidji-oghlau Ahmet, the. huntsman,, and Feaee-ogblou Mahraoud, the fat-cheeked, are most anxious to find the missing members of their families, or to get some news of them; and they are both to be found every day at the place in Stamboul where the Refugee Cnmmittee, holds its sittings." Appeals of a like piteous nature are made by gcores in the Turkish papers. The touching language in which these poor vilb-rers express their _rief at the bereavements shows that the " shaft has shot home," aud that the " hag nnd baggage" policy has been carried out to perfection, and produced misery enough, let us hope, lo satisfy even the eminent Biitish Christians who suggested aud applauded it.
