The barque Renfrewshire, bound from Port Piri3, South Australia, for London, put into Port Chalmers on Saturday, with her cargo shifted, and making water, the pumps being choked. The Onion Company's Wellington, Capt. M'Gee, arrived in harbor this morning at 7.30. She left Wellington at 3 p.m. yesterday, and reached Picton at 8 p.m.; sailed at 10 p.m., called at Durville's Island to land some passengers, and arrived here 88 above. The Wellington brings a large batch of cargo, including 70 tons of tea, transhipped ex Rotorua, from Sydney. She sails for Picton and Wellington at 8 o'clock this evening. The case of the unseaworthy condition of the barque Elizabeth, now lying at Wellington, is not settled yet. On Friday last five seamen belonging to her appeared in the Resident Magistrate's Court and stated that they had knocked off duty, and did not intend to do anything more on the vessel. The Magistrate informed them that he bad no power to cause an inquiry to be made into the seaworthiness of the vessel unless the captain brought the men before him for some breach of the Merchant Shipping Act. All he could do was to recommend them to go on board the vessel. Later in the day the captain of the Elizabeth laid an information against the men for disobeying orders, and they were arrested and brought before the Magistrate on Saturday. Mr Travers, -who appeared for the master, said that there appeared to be a misapprehension in the case. He believed the men were willing to discharge the vessel provided that they were not required to leave in her. Counsel for the defendants remarked that they were under the impression that it would be necessary for them to refuse duty in order that an inquiry should be instituted as to the condition of the ship. The Merchant Shipping Act of 1871 did not provide for such eases, but simply stated thai they must absent themselves or refuse to proceed to sea. The captain ultimately withdrew the information, and the men returned to the vessel.
