[PRKSS AGENCY.] Auckland, Saturday night. An old offender named Crowe has been arrested, charged with murdering another man of bad repute named Black. Both men were in a house of ill-fame in the suburb of Arch Hill, when a fight occurred, and Crowe was worsted. He afterwards came behind Black while talking with some women and struck him a heavy blow with a billhook, the weapon sticking in bis skull. The man was afterwards removed to the Hospital, where his deposition was taken. There is no hope of his recovery. Mr M'Minn addressed the electors of Awamatu last night, when a vote of confidence was carried by 22 to 4. The OraDge soiree and ball last night were attended by five hundred. Pout Chalmers, Saturday night. Arrived—Ship Panmure, 97 days from London, with 29 passengers and 2500 tons of cargo. She experienced heavy weather in the Southern Ocean, and on June 10 shipped a heavy sea, which carried away the two life boats, quarter boat, bridge, compass, and poop rails, and started the deck house and 60 feet of iron bulwarks. It swept the deck of everything raoveable, including some cases of acids. TiaiARU, Saturday night. The Orangemen of Timaru held a banquet and ball last evening at the Odfellows' Hall, when 150 attended the former and 200 the latter. It passed off very successfully. The captain of the Annie Bow has been summoned to appear before the Resident Magistrate for an assault on Sergeant Hilden in connection with the escape of Blyth. TArANui, Monday. A fire occurred at Mr John Cameron's, Spylaw, on Saturday at 5 p.m., when large stables, barns, and chaff-houses were totally destroyed, also 400 bushels of oats. They were insured in the Victorian for £150. The estimated loss is £400. The origin of the flre Is unknown. It was supposed that no one was in the building from noon, and the last persons to leave the stable did not smoke or use matches. This is the fourth similar case of fire in this district in a few. months, where stables have been destryed and no cause could be assigned for the outbreak and all insured in the Victorian Office. Wellington, Monday. An official telegram dated Adelaide to-day says that the English mail steamer was sighted off Cape Borde at nine o'clock this morning. Ddnedin, Monday. In consequence of urgent solicitations from Sir George Grey, Mr J. C. Brown will not, says the Herald, resign his seat for Lawrence. A petition against the present system of education was numerously signed at the Catholic Church yesterday. Westport, Monday. There has been a heavy rainfall withia the last twenty-four hours, which has gauged 7J inches. The road to Reef ton is nearly impassable. Some dissatisfaction is felt against the Public Works Department for delaying the bridging of the Ohauko stream, the present effect being that the Lyell district people are almost starved out through the stoppage of supplies en route. Lyttelton, Monday. The barque Columbus, from London, 116 days out is signalled. She comes to the New Zealand Shipping Company. Waitara, Monday. On Saturday night about thirty Waikato Natives, who had been drinking during the day, attempted to pull down and burn the Waitara Hotel. The constable called upon the to assist in arresting the ringleaders when a serious riot took place. No one was seriously hurt although blood wa3 flowing freely. The ringleaders were eventually lodged in gaol, but, owing to the threats of the Natives, and the attempted rescue of the prisoners, they were released by order of Mr T. Baylor J.P. The affair has caused great excitement.
