SVDNEt, Thursday. Arrived i Australia. The City of Melbourne from Noumea brings news of a terrible revolt of the Natives in the interior of New Calidonia about 90 miles from Noumea. Up to the time of the vessel leaving the bodies of 85 victims had been found terribly cut and hacked. The majority of the victims are French eplonists. The friendly Natives are helping the gendarmes to suppress the revolt. Colonel Passbore, commanding the forces, who went against the -insurgents with a detachment of troops was wounded aud died within two hours. ' ; Later. The news of the New Caledonian rising is confirmed. There are two tribes numbering 1000 who have never acknowledged the French authority. The troops and armed colonists have surrounded them, and complete extermination is expected. The cause of the rising is attributed to the harsh treatment and bad conduct of the whites.
