NELSON JAM COMPANY.
A PRACTICAL PROPOSAL. To the Editor os- tub 'Evknino Mail.' Sib, — I cannot agree with your correspondent «' Veritas " when he says that the ooly way to ftet a supply of frUit is for the Company to be established so that growers may feel certain of a market. I say that if the Company is established aud lias to depend on growers, for a supply of fruit the factory will he a certain failure. < The only way to make the jam factory pay is to purchase, or lease with a right to purchase, fifty acres of land, ahd grow all kiuds of fruit for a jam factory! By doing 30 lam confident it will pay, and pay naudsoroely, and the Company would be able to take fruit from growers as welt. 1 hope the public will .come forward aud not allow the Company to fall through, as a jam factory would be a great benefit to Nelson as it would give a great deal of employment aud put a large amount of money in circulation, as there is jam imported iuto New Zealand to the amount of £600,000 yearly. If the directors do as I suggest I will take fifty shares. — 1 am t &c, William Phillips.
