RICHMOND.
The annual examination of the Richmond Public Schools took place on Friday last, previous to the mid-winter holidays, that of the boya being conducted by the Rev Wm. Rowse and other members of the Committee, and that of the girls' school by the Kev T. Grace of Nelson. At the close of the day the pupils attending both schools were assembled in the girls' school-room, when the prizes were, at the award of the respective examiuers, distributed by Mrs Talbot in the presence of the Committee, and of a, large number of lady visitors. Girls' School. First Class — l3t prize Louisa Say well, 2nd Laura Thompson, 3rd Emily Gifford, 4th Beatrice Neal. Second Class — Ist Division, Ist prize Rose Croucher,2nd Annie Haase, 3rd Maude Neal; 2nd Division, Ist prize Lucy Brock, 2nd Ellen Sutton. Third Class— Ist Division, Ist prize Florence Lammas, 2nd Janet Pollock, 3rd Emma Hamraoud, 4th Lily Eylea; 2nd Division, Ist prize Ellen Connel. Fourth Class— Ist prize Margaret Leighton, 2nd Edith Lankow, 3rd Kata Keen. Fifth Class— lst prize Anne Read, 2ud Ivy Steer, 3rd Gertrude Sutton, special prize Aiziere Bell. Great satisfaction was expressed by the Committee at the condition of the schools in their charge as shown in the proceedings of
the day, and the Re\r. Mr Grace bore handsome testimony to the effective teaching in Miss Spencer's school which he had just had such ample opportunity of testing.
