There was a very stiong shock of earthquake here yesterday afternoon shortly after tbree o'clock; it was also felt in several of the country districts. Kumara, Monday. Mr George addressed the electors on Saturday night. A rote ot confidence was carried Mr Fitzgerald held a large meeting at Goldsborough. An unanimous vote was passed in his favor. Waitara, Saturday night. The Native meeting is postponed till Monday. Rewi sent a congratulatory message to Sir G. Grey and Mr Sheehan, inviting them to a private interview this afternoon. Monday. A special train from New Plymouth bringing the Wellington Natives arrived here at noon yesterday and immediately afterwards they, with Messrs Sheehan and Harris, went to Rewi's quarters when cordial greetings were exchanged. Rewi, Weteri, and Te Aru spoke words of welcome on behalf of the Ngatimaniapotos, Waikatos and Ngapuhis, and Mete Kingi, Wi Tako, of the Wanganui and Ngatiatawas. Rewi then crossed over to where Mr Sheehan was sitting, and after a short private interview the meeting dispersed. It was rumored this morning that Rewi is likely to have the meeting postponed on account, of the non arrival of Wirema Kingi and the unfavorable state of the weather. Wellington, Monday. The Australia with the London mails of 23rd May left San Francisco for Auckland on the 10th inst. Sailed— Wellington for Picton and Nelson at 1p m.
