Wellington, Wednesday. In consequence of the nature of Dr Hector's report upon the samples of kerosene submitted to him by the police, the Corporation have taken the matter up and selected 42 samples out of their own bond, and upon being tested it was found that only two samples out of 42 came up to the standard required by the Dangerous Goods Act, and all the rest were labelled dangerous oils. A large quantity having come by the Ringarooma and stored in the Corporation bond, the Corporation declined to allow it to be withdrawn until such time as it has been proved to be safe oil for domestic use. Separate tests taken out of the same can showed a difference in the oil, that on the top of the can being inferior and more inflammafcle oil than at the bottom. The Chamber of Commerce have called a special meeting for Friday for the purpose of discussing^ the kerosene question. A great deal of interest is taken in the matter. Several storekeepers have sent to Sydney for the highest' priced kerosene to avoid coming under the provisions of the Dangerous Goods Act.

. Thursday. Mr Trarers is taking proceedings against T. Kennedy -Macdonald, a well known land auctioneer, for a breach of the Conveyancing Ordinance in preparing transfers of property otherwise' thav through a solicitor of the Supreme Court. The case is to be tried next Monday.

Mr T. A. Krull, the German Consul, on behalf of the . German residents of Wellington, has sent a telegram to the Emperor of Germany expressing their sympathy. The offences return for the Wellington Provincial District for 1876-77, shows that the total number offences for 1877 amounted to 1543, and in 1876 to 1600 persons; there were apprehended in 1876, 1527; and in 1877, 1 476. The apprehensions for drunkenness in 1876 were 869,.and in 1877, 901; the apprehensions for larceny in 1877 were 96, and in 175, 123; for lunacy 96 in 1876, and 62 in 1877; 52 for vagrancy in 1876, and 119 in 1877, the whole number of offences for 1877 shows a considerable decrease compared with the return for 1877.

Invercargill, Thursday. MrLmnden, M.H.R. for Invercargill, addressed his constituents last night. He said his private business would not permit of his sacrificing so much time at Wellington, and consequently he had forwarded his resignation to* the Speaker. The meeting carried a resolution approving of MrLumsden's general conduct during the session.
