Major Brown, Civil Engineer, calls for tenders in to-day's Herald, for the erection of three buildings at Waitara, to be completed by the 1 9th June, and removing the same for the purpose of holding the coming native meeting. Tenders are also called for bread, potatoes, beef, tea, sugar, etc. Tuesday. Rewi has telegraphed to Sir G. Grey:— " Your word is good. Be sure to meet me on the 21st June." . Ddnedtn, Tuesday. Mr C. S. Reeves intimates that he intends offering himself as a candidate for the Dunedin vacancy, but he does not say in what interest. Christchurch, Tuesday. The Jockey; Club have arrauged the programme for their Spring Meeting. The only alteration from last, year will be the addition of a Flying Handicap of 100 soys on the third day. The total amount of added money will be £2,200. A ballot was taken at Akaroa yesterday to ascertain whether the ratepayers were favorable to borrowing £30,000 for municipal works. The result was 67 for and 70 against. Yesterday forty- five informations were laid against persons for driving or riding at a trot round certain street corners, whereas it is provided by.the bye-law that horsea should only walk. One of the forty-five was driving the Governor at the time the offence was committed, while another is Councillor Briggs, one of the most active Councillors in endeavoring to have the bye-law enforced.
