[Per Ringarooma.] Melbourne, May 29th. Ihe Cable contract has been drawn up and forwarded by telegraph to London. The Company have to duplicate their lines within — months from the date of signing of the agreement. Press messages must be addressed to licensed newspaDers, and be in plain English, with no cypher or words of concealed meaning. The Government have found work for upwards of 200 of the unemployed, in carrying out the drainage works, and they intend further to carry out two of the new lines of railway by day labor, but large numbers of the unemployed are not laborers, but belong to the building mechanical trades. Public confidence has not been cempletely restored, and very little building is beimr proceeded with. The Government are very anxious to commence the erection of the Exhibition buildmg in Carlton Gardens, otherwise the vote wil lapse on the 30th pro*. The building will ultimately cast about £100,000. Country trade is very dull, and there is no business of importance doing. „ . . t , Sydney, May 29.
