The Wallace sailed for Wellington last evening at 9 o'clock, and arrived there at 11 this morning. The Muiray sailed for West Coast ports via Motueka at 7.30 this morning. The Char)es Edward arrived at Greymouth this morning from Hokitika. She leaves for Westport and Nelsou to-morrow morning. The Taranaki on the downward trip will call at Nelson, arriving here on Wednesday evening. The Awaroa arrived at Wanganui from Nelson last Thursday. The Richard and Mary'finished loading timber to-day, and Captain Brett expects to sail for Wellington this evening. The Arthur Wakefield left Wellington for Nelson on Thursday, so that she may be looked for at any hour. She has on board a general cargo. The Wellington sailed for Picton and Wellington at 9.30 this morning. She leaves the latter port on the return trip at 1 p.m. on Monday, arriving here on Tuesday morning, and sailing for Picton and Wellington by the same fide at 10 a.m. The Torea has apparently been on a cruise round Blind Bay, for she called at Collingwood on Wednesday, and left there for . Durville's Island on the following day. She may be expected here to-morrow. Soundings of the Waimea channel have again been taken by Captain Cross and the pilot crew. The recent gales have affected the channel slightly, but there is still plenty of water to allow of an ordinary sized vessel entering the river. The Lyttelton arrived from Blenheim last evening, having been detained at that port in consequence of the shallowness of the bar, there being a scarcity of water on it. She ako missed the tide at ihe French Pass yesterday morning, and consequently had to wait for the afternoon tide. The Lyttelton sails for Blenheim on Monday at 1 p.m. A race, thafcaused a deal of excitement in Waitapu, took place thia week between the schooners Arthur Wakeneld and Clio. Both vessels left Waitapu together bound for Wellington with cargoes of timber. The former arrived alongside the Wellington wharf half an hour in advance of her opponent. Light winds were experienced during the passage. A deal of money changed hands on the race.
