CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor ov the 'Evening Mail,.' Sir,— As my "common sense" seems of too high an order for your esteemed correspondents in last night's issue, I shall not ■attempt to disprove to their satisfaction that the verandahs over the streets were intended to dangle carpets and carpet bags from, or that in the "interests of the community" they (or any other man) ought to be allowed to strew the footpaths with packing cases, or occupy them with bundles of matting, etc. I merely wish again to point out that if any portion of these " bye-laws " is oppressive or unjust, a representation to that effect in the proper quarter would be more likely to have the desired effect than a newspaper correspondence, or setting at defiance regulations which, if unnecessarily stringent, can easily be altered by those who made them. I am, &c, Common Sense.
