London, May 18. The money market is steady. Consuls are firm at 96}. Great speculation on Stock Exchange. The wool sales exhibit considerable weakness as they progress. There have been considerable withdrawals. Prices average a decline of one penny principally marked in washed and greasy crossbreds. The corn market is weak with a downward tendency.
The Daily ftews- says that Count Todleben has sent the Porte an ultimatum demanding the e vacua! ion of Shumla, Varua and Batoum, and t!ie Russiau occupation of Buyrikdere. A serious riot occurred at Preston Constantinople, May 18. Notwithstanding the Pacific tone of the St Petersburg press, the Russians continue massing troops near here and along the Bosphorous, and towards Gallipoli. Their head quarters remain at Stei'ano.
St. Pi tersihjrgii, May 19. Count Schouvaloff has started for London. Semi-official journals here say the movement of Russian troops is for sanitary reasons and there is no iutention to occupy Constantinople.
