A rather good story ia told by the Swiss Times, and 'reads as though it were true as well as good. A young girl of the Canton Sehwyz called the other day on a registrar of marriages, and inquired as to the cost of an official betrothal (putting up the banns). " Two francs," answered the registrar. " That'seems a good deal," remarked the applicant • " but never mind • when must I come ?" "To-morrow morning, at ten o'clock." Exactly atthe hour named tin* fiancee, gaily dressed, • put in an appearance, but, to the registrar'a surprise, quite alone. He asked her to tßke a seat, thinking the other party (o the proposed formality would soon arrive. After waiting half an hour he became impatient, and inquired of the young lady how soon her betrothed might be expected. ;« My betrothed 1" replied the fair candidate for matrimony, in a tone of indignant surprise ; "I thought he was included in the two frabcß 1" ■ ■■ i
