[PREBB AGENCY.] Hokitika, Wednesday. Unprecedented weather has prevailed here for some weeks past. For the last four days there has been a perfect hurricane of wiud and rain, and there ia no sign of abatement. The steamer Waipara broke her shaft at Okarito. A new bhaf t has been sent overland. Shipping and other business is suspended, owing to the weather. Alexandka, Wednesday. Now that the excitement of the Premier's visit is over, the settlers are seriously considering the results, and are asking what return the Kingites will give to Sir George Grey's proposition. With regard to Eewi's meeting with Ministers on Sunday, the result is not very clear. Rewi simply said he would not interfere. This, by his own people, is said to mean that he bad nothing to do with Tawhiao's meeting, and felt himself free to pursue his own course. Dunbdin, Wednesday. Mr. Wilson's house, at Well Park, was burnt down this morning, with the furniture. There were insurances in the Standard for £1500, and in the South British £800, but he estimates his loss above these sums. Tafanui, Thursday. There has been a heavy fall of snow here, and communication has been almost suspended. There bare been eeveral fires in this vicinity lately amongst farmers' holdings, and many wheat stacks have been burnt. At Waikaiaa pettier had the., whole of his grain crop burnt last Monday, Lyttelton, Thursday. Sailed— Wave, for Kaipara. A heavy S W. gale has been blowing since 1 a.m. to-day. The W. C. Went worth broke adrift from her moorings, and drove the Omaha and Enterprise brigantines on to the breastwork. 4.11 three vessels were considerably damaged. The gale shows indications of taking off now.
