Mr Clark, Civil Engineer is now engaged in devising a scheme for the drainage of Wellington. He has also undertaken to report upon the best means of bringing an additional water supply for the town from Pakurataki stream either by a ditch or aqueduet. Dr. Pollen has left Auckland to take chargie bii the paper as editor. It is stated, that immigration under the auspices tif 'the Government, which ceased for Some months, has been resumed. It has been ordered that free passages shall be provided for immigrants, so that they may arrive here in the spring, when there will be a large demand for their services. It is intended that passages for 5000 free immigrants shall be granted for the year. It will be disposed of thus:— Dividend and bonus at 15 per cent, £54,375 ; increase to reserve fund, £95,000 ; balance to new account, £4983. The dividend will be payable at the Land Office to-morrow. The aggregate balance sheet shows a debtor and creditor account amounting to £10,550,000. Dunedin, Friday. Messrs Batts and Co, attorneys for Perry Davis, instituted proceedings yesterday in the Supreme Court against one Wilkin as manufacturer of painkiller, which is said to be an imitation of Perry Davis.' The other defendants are the sub-agents, Hayman and Co, and Lange, and Thoneman. An ex parte motion was waived in order to give the defendants an opportunity of being heard. Messrs Wright, Stephemon, and Co., in their grain report state that the millers are operating cautiously, and that the late quotations for barley are sustained. They quote extra prime milling samples, 4s 6d per bushel; good, 4s to 4s 3d; ordinary, 3s 9d; oats in brisk demand at 3s 5d to 4s 6d, for prime milling, 3s 4d for good feed. Barley, prime malting, is wanted, but almost none iB offering. It is saleabls from 5s 6d per bushel for prime malting samples, and 4s 6d for good quality Mr Bradshaw reports : Bank of New Zealand, £24 4s; National Insurance, £1 10s cum dividend; Union Insurance, 15s ; Standard Insurance, £13; Shipping Company, £3 15s; Mosgiel factory, £3 7s. Blenheim, Friday. On the Wakamarina Terrare four men are on payable gold. At thirteen feet sinking, one grain to the dish is obtained.
