EASTER ENCAMPMENT.
The town volunteers to the number of aboufc 150 mustered at the Drill Shed on Thursday evening, and marched to the railway station where they startad for the < amping ground, which is again on Mr Canning's property at Richmond, but a little further from the station than last year At Bishopdale the ; volunteers were joined by the Bishop of Nelson and several frienda, who accompanied them to Richmond, returning ; by the train, aud at Stoke by tbe Stoke Rifles. From the Richmond station they marched to the camp, giring Mr Canning a hearty cheer a 9 they passed his house. Yesterday was a busy day There were no less than three drills, besides which there was a good deal of work done, fatigue parties being told off to erect butts for rifle practice, and to cut down some three or four chains of a high quick hedge in order to clear the rifie range and to moke room for the evolutions in Monday's review. The volunteers are loud in their praise of Mr Canning, who has nofc only given up his field for the encampment bufc has done much to make them comfortable, having carted a quantity of straw on the ground for beds, and constructed a large tank, thus ensuring a plentiful supply of water The catering of Mr Stallard appears to be giving every satisfaotion, if we may judge from the long list of delicacies which were reported to us aa having been provided by him yesterday. The number on the ground yesterday was 165, and on Monday it is expected that there will be over two hundred. We understand that there is to be a night attack during the course of this ereuing. No alarm, therefore, lest a Russian frigate in the Bay need be felt ' to-night if the residents in town should be awakened by the thundering of cannon. There will be diviue service in the camp tomorrow, and on Monday afternoon the volun- | teers will be reviewed by the Hon. Major I Ricnmond. C. B. I
