WELLINGTON V. NELSON.

Wellington, Monday night. The Wellington team in their first innings made 56, with only one bye and three wides. Nelson in the second innings commenced with Knapp and Arnold, and when the former bad scored 8, and the latter 5, time was called,

Tuesday, 2*lo p.m. Play commenced at 11 o'clock, the two not outs, Knapp and Arnold, going to the wickets, the latter taking the first over from Lockett, which he played /rery cleverly. Fordham howled the next over, and Knapp cut his first ball for 1, Runs came slowly but surely, both playing well, but Knapp was at last caught by Mace for a well played ten. W. Eden took his place, and cut Fordham for one, and quickly ran up 8, but succumbed to a bail trimmer from Lockett. Fowler filled the vacancy, and shortly after Arnold was given out l.b.w. Halliday followed and at once made two pretty drives for two, Fowler in the meantime driving one clean over the howler's head for 3. After making two more Halliday was cleaned bowled by Armitage. Dr. Canney then took the bat, and cut Salmon for three, Fowle.- having driven him to leg for three the previous ball. The telegraph now shows four out for 60 runs. Dr Canney and Fowler are playing magnificently, and everything now looks like Nelson securing an easy victory.

, 3 -5 p.m. Fowler was run out for 15. Dr. Canney and Wigzell were adding to the score quickly when lunch was called, the score standing at five out for 83 runs. After lunch Canney and Wigzell resumed batting against the bowling of Kennedy and Armitage. Runs came freely from Kenned's bowling until he drew Wigzell's stumpa for a good Bcore of 19, including 5 threes, 2 ones, and a two. T. Eden went to the wickets, and shortly afterwards Dr. Canney was stumped out by Mace for 15 runs. Silcock was next, and after adding 6 to the score was splendidly caught at slip by Blacklock bowled Kennedy. T. Eden was bowled and caught by Blacklock for 2; Barnett and C. Halliday were the last in, and Barnett was run out {for 2 runs. C. Halliday, not out, 4. Total 108, including 3 byes, I leg bye, and 6 wides. In the Wellington second innings Mace and Kennedy went in first against ;the bowling of Wigzell and T. Eden. Kennedy was almost immediately bowled by Wigzell without scoring. One out for 2 runs. Armitage then went in and made another duck's egg, being well caught by Knapp. 2—o—3.
