In our fourth page to-day will be found an interesting summary of the news by the San. We omitted to mention yesterday that the brothers Campbell, who were charged with stealing money from the Globe Hotel were discharged by the Magistrates, they being of opinion that there was no evidence whatever to connect the accused with the robbery. Thb result of the polling for a City Councillor was declared by Mr Sharp, the Eeturning Officer, at seven o'clock last night The numbers were, Johns 103, Pickard 96. Mr Johns briefly returned thanks. It will be seen by an advertisement which appears elsewhere that the long promised, much surveyed, often postponed extension of the railway to the Port is to be commenced at last. Tenders; for the formation are to be sent in by the Bth of May. Messrs. WilMns and Cowles illustrated Bible lecture was delivered at the Temperance Hall last night to a large audience, the Rev J. Beckenham being in the chair. The views were exceedingly good, and the young people of Nelson should be very grateful to the gentlemen named for the treat afforded to them.
