On this line, Mr Baigent offers to supply all timber and haulage free of cost towards replacing a narrow bridge, providing the Board finds labor. Mr J. Holland has finished the 6£ chaius of forming and gravelling, towards "which a grant of £6 was promised in April last. Mr C. Anderson has done the Breakwater at Foshill, and the channel has bpen opened j but to kepp the river from breaking over into what is called the Dry Bußh, it will be necessary to erect two smaller ones higher op the river. A sum of £3 4s was spent to repair the Breakwater at Bell Grove. The protective works at Appleby should not he lost sight of. The main drain in Waimea West through Mr James Kerr's requires deepening. I am pushing forward with the repairs to Moutere Hills and theDovedale line before the approach of wet weather. The expenditure in the different subdistricts is as follows :— Stoke £82 Is 4d, Waimea East £129 14s, Spring Grove £23 2« BJ, Waktfielti £140 4s 3d, Waim^a West £62 4s 2d ; Dovedale, £70 16s 9 i." Resolved, That the extra gravelling on Stanley Brook road be done, and that Mr Baigent'e offer be accepted whenever the present bridge shall be impassable. Resolved, That tenders be invited for breakwaters at Foxhill, and for the gravelling by Mr Higgins' at Bell Grove. Resolved, That Mr A. Baigeat have notice to repair (he covering over the mill race on Pigeon Valley road. Mr Holland having stated that Messsrs B»igent and Fairhall complain of the large stones left on the gravelling on Stanley Brook road, and wished them broken immediately, the overseer was directed to have it done by the overseer in spare time, but not to engage any extra labor. Resolved, That the Government be recommended not to remove at present the substructure of the Wairoa Bridge, nothing being now left to endanger the Railway Bridge, and to allow the footbridge used by the workmen to remain for the use of the publis. The Secretary reported proceedings at the Assessment Court held on the 4th March, when ali the objections made by reason of change of occupation were allowed, and those against the valuation ruled in favor of the Board, with costs to the objectors. The following letters were received :— From the Chairman of the County CouDcil, informing the Board that the Council has re-adopted the apportionment of last year of the County funds — From the Secretary of the Motueka Board with references to material taken from that district to repair road on Moutere hills in the Wuimea district. Letter from the Bishop of Nelson, stating that having observed a notice for re-letting the Toll-bar he wrote to Bay that he understood the arrangement entered into last year to be only temporary, and that he intended to build on the ground in (he rear of the Tollhouse, he would require the frontage. Eeßolved, That his Lordship be informed that the Board regret being unable, owing to the state of their funds, to discontinue the Toll-bar, but hope they will not pat him to any serious inconvenience by continuing the building in its present position and under existing arrangements as to rental, &c. Should such be the case the Board will, though reluctantly, be compelled to take steps, under the Public Works Act, to acquire a portion of the Bishopdale property for the purpose of widening the road. Letter from Mr H. Martin, junr., requesting an extension of time for removing certain trees off the road in

the Wairoa Gorge, as from unavoidable causes be had been unable to do so within the time specified by the Board. Resolved. That en extension of three months be allowed. Latter from the Colonial Treasurer advising, that £217 Is lOd hss been paid to the Boards account being share of funds at credit of the Waimea County. Two tenders were received for renting the Toll-gate, when Mr J. Cockram's offer was accepted ; the other, although higher, being informal no securities been proposed. Mr D. Thomas applied for assistance in gravelling twenty chains of roud at Bell Grove, Resolved, That £12 be granted. Messrs J. Malcolm and Hart applied to have the cross road from the main at O'Loughlens corner towards the Richmond Cemetery gravelled. Resolved, That tenders be invited for the gravelling, Mr Malcolm to grub gorse on the road. Warrants were signed for £563 15s sd.
