CRICKET MATCH.

NELSON VERSUS WAKEFIELD. This match was played at Wakefield on Saturday, but as time would not admit of its being finished, it had to be decided by the first innings, and resulted in an easy victory for Wakefield. Firth having won the toss elected to go in. The wickets went down very quickly, and in an hour and a half the last had fallen for 64 runs. The batting of H. Halliday was a noteworthy feature in the innings, he having ran up a score of 20 by very pretty play. Knyvett also played well for his 13. The bowling of Canney for Wakefield was very good. The Wakefield men went in shortly before lunch, aud remained at the wickets nearly all the afternoon, making a total of 116. Arnold, Cauney, S. Fowler, and T. Eden all played well, particularly Canney and Fowler, who were at the wickets for nearly two hours. The bowling of C. Halliday, Wigzell, aud Rout was remarkably good, and maiden after maiden over was delivered, but the defence was far too good. The following are the scores: — Wakefield. H.
