The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 1878.

Prom the returns compiled by the Inspector of sheep in the Bliud Eay district— which includes Golcleu Bay, Riwaka, Motueka, Moutere, Motueka Valley, Dovedale, the Waimeas, and Suburban North— we learn that the total number of sheep in these districts is no less than 11 4,000. Prom these, the annual clip may, at a very moderate computation, be set down at 1300 bales. This, of course, is but a small drop in the bucket as compared with the total export of wool from the colouy, but it will, we believe, surprise mauy of our readers to learn that the little flocks of sheep that are to be seen here and there make up so large an aggregate. To these 1300 hales there are to he added, when calculating the total export from Nelson, the product of the Lake and Tarndale runs, some 300 bales, and the fleeces taken from the sheep imported from Wanganui, which must amount to a considerable number in the course of the year. A strange but very painful and serious accident occurred yesterday to Mr Jackson, senior, at the Waimea toll gate. It appears that he was knocked down by a calf, both bones of his right leg being fractured iv the fall. He was at ouce removed to the Hospital. We regret to have to record the suspension of the old established firm of Messrs 11. Davis aud Co., who have had to call their creditors together owing to the dulness of trade of late. A good deal of sympathy is expressed with Mr Moss Davis, the principal of the firm, in his misfortune. A trap accident occurred on the Port road last evening, wheu a horse and fourwheeled conveyance were precipitated over the embankment near the lime kiln through the former shying at some object on the road side. Beyond one of the shafts being broken nothing serious happened. Thk monthly inspection of the Town aud Port Volunteers will take placo thia ovpninoat half-past seven. As the Volunteer year ends this month this will be the last occasion on which Volunteers will have an opportunity of making up the necessary number of inspections to qualify for capitation allowance. Captain Edwin reports this afternoon as follows:—" Watch barometer; bad weather approaching; any direction between north aud west and south-west, aud further fall of glass." A Quadrille Assembly will be held at Mr C. King's Assembly Koom this evening, commencing at 815. An au ally of nature. All attempts to force nature react injuriously upon the system. Medical treatment, to be successful, should be auxiliary and not compulsory, The cures of nervousness, debility, indigestion, insomnia, hypochondria, uterine disorders, kidney and bladder difficulties, rheumatism, and of all affections of the sensitive organs wrought by Udolpiio Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps are attributable to the fact that it is a potentially, but never a violent compeller of nature. — Advt.
