Wellington, Saturday night. An attempt to start a Reform Association has so far been a failure. Two meetings were held, and at each only three other persons attended besides the reporters.
Two mineral discoveries are reported from Picton, one beiug a bed of slate, three miles from the town, and the other a vein of silver in Queen Charlotte's Sound.
Monday. Sailed: Wellington, for Picton and Nelson, at 3 p.m. Passengers : Messrs Walker, Hermtt, Hooper, Scott, Deane, and 5 in the steerage.
Auckland, Saturday night. The South British had reinsured £550 with the Standard and £350 with the TrausAtlantic on the Rivertou risks of £2700, leaving £1800 as the South British amount of loss.
A deputation waited upon Mr Shcehan today. The latter said, with regard to the obstacles to the purchase of Ohineniuri lands, that the machinery to remove them would he put in motion immediately. Arrived— Barque Chasca and ship Chile, from London ; brigantine Lapwing, from New York.
Lawrence, Monday. The crops here have suffered considerably, especially oats, and it is doubtful if in a number of instances many acres of oats will be worth the trouble of harvesting. Sir George Grey, accompanied by several well known gentlemen, arrives here this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The children attending the grammar school are to meet the party at the railway station. A banquet takes place in the evening, and it is expected that the attendance will be unusually large.

After mass yesterday, the Roman Catholics held a meeting, aud a committee was appointed to promote registration for voting. The Corn Exchange Committee have resolved to urge on ihe Government the necessity of running night trains during the grain season.
Dunedin, Monday. At a banquet given to the Ministers by the citizens on Saturday night, the Premier announced that Mr Stout had accepted the office of Attorney-General. Mr Stout stated that Mr Laruach expects to return from Europe before the opening of Parliament, but left his resignation in case he was delayed, so that the city should not suffer.
Ashburton, Monday. Two new evening papers appear to-night, the Echo and the Ashburton l J osl, the former by Furness and Dixon, and the latter by Joseph Ivess, proprietor of the Ashburton Mail.
Charleston, Monday. A fearful gale raged here on Saturday night The Catholic Chapel was blown down, and is a complete wreck. Great damage was done to property in the district.
