WAIMEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following questions were considered, and decisions arrived at after our reporter left the Council Chamber yesterday : — That the vote to the outlying districts be expanded in the same districts as last year. —That the Chairman should secure the services of a competent overseer. On the motion of Mr Oliver, it was unanimously resolved — That this Council do agree to unite with the Grey, Buller, and Inangahua Counties in petitioning his Excellency to declare the road from the Foxhill railway to Westport and Greymouth to be a Government road, under Section 83 of the Public Works Act. On the motion of Mr Dencker, seconded by Mr Walls— Resolved, That the thanks of this Council are due to Mr Oliver for the able, energetic, and persevering manner in which he has on every opportunity forwarded the interests of the county. On the motion of Mr Dencker — Resolved, That all public drains in the Wainiea Highway District be placed under the control of the Road Board in accordance with clause 170 of the Public Works Act. On the motion of Mr Macmahon. — Resolved, That the Chairman be authorised to employ such clerical assistance as he may deem necessary, and at such remuneration as he may see fit. On the motion of Mr Oliver— Resolved That this Council will refrain from the expenditure of the sum of £300 referred to in Mr Darnell's letters until satisfied of its destination, and will then hand it over for expenditure according to the original intention of Parliament. On motion of Mr Bird— Resolved, That urgent application be made in the name of this Council to the Government for the remittance to the Waimea Road Board of £700, the unpaid balance of the £1000 voted for the road from Oronoco to Stanley Brook. On the motion of Mr Oliver — Resolved, That the Government be respectfully requested to place at the disposal of the Motueka Road Board, the share of the vote of £1200 for the road from Takaka to Motueka over Mount Arthur range, belonging to this County. On the motion of Mr Bird— Resolved, That the Government be informed by the County Chairmac of the urgent necessity of proceeding with the Waiaroa bridge with the least possible delay.
