Dear Sirs— Captain Carter, of the Gainsborough, being confident that his ship is perfectly seaworthy, intends leaving for Wellington either to-night or to-morrow morning. We may here mention that both a topmast and bowsprit have been rigged, so that the damage has already been practically repaired. And the captain wishes us to point out and place on record the delay which has occurred in the making of any complaint as to the Beaworthiness of his ship. We are, &c, SCLANDERg & Co., Agents N. Z. Sib, — As we have received information that it would not be safe for you to take your ship in its present state through Cook' 3 Straits, we have instructed Captain Levy, Marine Surveyor to this Agency, and Captain Gastcr, of the Celestial Queen, to hold a survey, and report to us as to the seaworthiness of your ship. In the meantime, we hereby protest against your proceeding to sea until the Surveyors' report has been handed to us, the purport of which we will communicate to you at the earliest possible moment.
