The annual meeting of the New Zealand Central District of the Independent Order 1 of Eechabites was held yesterday, when I there were 21 representrtives present. The report showed that seven new Tents had been opened during the year, five in Otago, one in Christchurch, and one in Hawke's Bay. There had also been an increase of ! 280 members. Juvenile Temples had been opened in connection with the Tents at Wanganui, Waipawa, and Sandou. Upon the finance of the Order the following report was read :— " The balance to the credit of the Sick and Funeral Fund is £704 13s Cd, as against £606 14s lid for last year, being an increase of £97 18s 7d. The balance to the credit of the Contingent Fund at present is £87 7s sd. The total amount of all fuuds in the keeping of the District Treasurer is £850 15s 3Jd, showing an increase of £161 0s 4£d for the year. The Teat Funds, as per returns, are as follows :— Sick and Funeral Fund, total to its credit, £2421 18s 3d; Contingent Fund, £222 18s 3d ; total amount held by Tent Trustees, £2644 16s 6d. This amount added to that of the District Fund makes a grand total of £3945 lls 9Jd, being an increase for the year of £86 1 la sjd. The sum of £273 has been paid to sick members during the year. This money has been distributed between 33 members, being an average rate of sickness of less than two and a half days per member for the year." The officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:— D.C.R.. Bro. A. Levy, Skandias Hope Tenjfc, Norsewood, Hawke's Bay; D.D.R., Bro. J. S.Jones, Nelson; District Secretary, Bro. F. H. Fraser, Wellington (re-elected.) A long discussion arose on the proposition of the Dunedin Tent that provision should be made for the admission of female members into ordinary Tents. This practice had already been adopted by Tents in Dunedin and Christchurch, and the sanction of the District Council was sought. The female branch in Wellington strongly opposed the innovation, and their petition against it was read and received. Ultimately the proposition was negatived by thirteen votes against ten, and the endeavor to assimilate the Eechabite Order to that of the Good Templars h*s at present Droved unsuccessful. This defeat will "not prevent the subject from arising at f uture annual meetings, when the decision will be open to re -consideration. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting at Wellington. The subjects of a literary organ and a subsidized lecturer were considered; but it was decided that sufficient funds were not at the disposal of the District to justify expenditure at present in these directions. A sum of £100, i interest on invested funds, was voted for the purpose of extending the Order during the year, the method of its appropriation being left to the discretion of the District Officers. The remainder of the business was merely formal. The meeting broke up at 5-30 this morning. A Timaru telegram dated February 6, states that "a, special train numbering 93 trucks, passed through that place on its way to Amberley, with 5200 sheep for a Northern J run. The train was about 600 yards long." These sheep are the property of Mr Teschenmker, and were on tbeir way to the Avondale run in Maryborough, which was recently purchased by him from Messrs N. Edwards and Co. Premature decay. "From inherent weakness, overwork, continued exposure to unwholesome air or sudden variations of temperature, from business cares, sorrow, or other causes, the constitutions of many persons prematurely decay. Under such circumstances, a wise discrimination should be exercised in selecting the material wherewith to repair dilapidation and restore the human edifice. Remember that the sanction of four thousand physicians has been accorded to Udolfho Wolfe's Schikoam Aromatic Schnapps. — Advt,
