MABINI T , „ . 184 A' W. SCAIFE, \ "4w™«ors. "Is there no hopa? ' the Bick man said ; The silent doctor shook his head. " While there is life there's hope,' he cried.' " JSgroto, dum animas est, spes est." DR. L. L. SMITH (The only legally-qualified Medical man advertising), : CONSULTS— On all affections of the Nervous System (no matter from what cause arising) ; on all broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseases arising fr^om early Indiscretions ; on Gout ; on Rheumatism. IN these Colonies, those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repining s futile. The cole idea should be the chances we possess of remedying the ills we already have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may-— put on as good an exterior as he can — still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith— oar obligations to society at large— the welfare of oar luture offspring— and the duty we owe to ourselves — forbids procrasti nation, and points out to us not to wait till the ravages break. out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant ; before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful mnn makes inquiries as to their standing ; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omila thesa necessary precautions, and without regard to the fitness, qutlificatiqn, experience, and ability for the parties lar ailment requiring treatment, he consults the uearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction, ■ Is it astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Have I not, tor years, pointea out to them that I, Dr. L. L, Smith, am the only legally-qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies t Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are selling— such as Phospliodyne, Jfiasence of Life, &c— and had them analysed, and found them to oonaisfc of «• Burnt sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates I ' have pkoved to be all forgeries It is for this reason that I step out of the eihics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they cau consult a legally quaiifiei man, and one moreorer who uas made this his especial study. Dr L L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has bsen in Melbourne 24 years in full practice on Nervous Dhcasea Loss of Power mid Debility Syphilitic Affections Want of Condition Gout and Kheuraatigm . Dk. L. L. SMITH can beconsulted by letter— Fee £1. Medicines forwarded to all he colouies. . Da. L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins st. Bast. I |(Late the Residence of the Governor), M MELBOOBNB. 10H
