The Government have purchased two Turkish ironclads which were detained as contraband of war in. the Thames.
[Rbdxeb's Telegrams per Press Agency.] WARLIKE ASPECT OP AFFAIRS m London, February 13. The Turkish Government have nodded a protest against the entry of the British ! squadron into the Dardanelles. February 14. Active military aud naval preparations are being made. Minister for Foreign Affairs, in reply to a qnestiou, said that ho hoped to be able to announce on Thursday, that the British ironclad squadron had arrived at Constantinople. Several Austrian ironclads have started for the Levant. The channel squadron has been ordered to rendezvous at Gibraltar as a port of call. The Assam arrived at Galle on the 12 th instant. The opening of the Colonial wool sales is postponed to the 26th instant.
