WELLINGTON RACES.

Hdtt, Friday. The Hurdle Handicap was a capital race between Te Whetu and Shark. AIL the horses jumped splendidly, hut Te Whetu had the best pace. At the second hurdle Grey Momus fell, throwing M/Ivor, his rider, who seems badly hurt. He got up however, and mounted immediately, but was no sooner in the saddle than he fell again, quite helpless. At the finish Shark ran Te Whetu very close, both riders flogging hard, but Te Whetu won by two lengths, Shark 2, Victor 3. The Governor arrived about 11 -30. The weather is beautiful, aud twice as many people and vehicles are on the ground as yesterday. M/Ivor, who fell stunned, is not seriously injured. The Cup was a wonderfully good race, a very hot pace being kept up from start to finish. Lara jumped away with the lead after several false starts, and kept it throughout, though very hard pushed by Trump Card aud Otupai There was tremendous excitement when the horses entered the straight, deafening cries of Lara, being raised. Eight started. Lara won by about a length, Trump Card 2, Otupai 3, but th^re was so little difference between them that there was much uncertainty as to their places. Time, 3mins 44 one-tenth sees. The Ilutt Park Stakes commenced by a false start, though Chokebore, Mufti, Stirabout, and Isaac Walton went round and came in in the above order. Standard J3earer did not go.
