COURAGE OF A LADY
At meeting of the Royal Humane Society, held at the offices, Trafalgarsquare, Mr Hawea preeidingj a large number of remarkable cases, of saving lifa in various parts of the world were investigated by the committee, and rewards of different descriptions conferred. The silver medallion was unanmously voted to Miss Grace Vernor Bußßeli, a young lady only sixteen years of agp, and the bronze medallion to Samuel Isaacs, her black steward, for saving life under the following circumstances: — On December 1 last (he screw steamer Georgette sprung a leak at sea in a gaie off Cupe Lewin during a voyage from Fremantle to Port Adelaide, and was stranded at a place called Kaldsgup, about eight miles south of Wallcliffe House, residence of Mr A. P. Bussell, and fifty miles from tbe township of Basselton, Parth. Hearing of the accident, Miss Bussell, attended by her black servant, rode on horseback dovpn a very steep cliff at full spaed to the scene of the disaster, ond found the boat capsized in two aad a half fathoms of water, aud the paseogers clinging lo her. Miss Bussell loßt no time in riding her horse into the sen, and, after the greatest difficulty, at length succeeded in reaching tbe boat, accompanied by Isaacs, and, with as many women and children clingiDg to her and her horse as possible, she made for the shore, and placed them in safety, the man Isaacs, afterwards returning to the boat and saving a man who had been left there. There was a great daDger of the horses being overturned by the fierce surf. Had this been the case, both the animals and their riders must have been lost, hb the backwash is something fearful on the steep coast where the accident occurred
