10-morrow night, by general request, Mr Stephen Massett, who was so warmly received on Monday, will appear in a new programme, at the Masonic Hall. He will introduce many readings, songs, recitations and imitations. The programme will be out to-morrow, and we feel sure he will be received, as he deserves to be, by a crowded house. Life is a burthen to unhappy victim of chronic dyspepsia and constipation. Not only are the two above-named diseases generally co-existent, but the manifestations resemble those of dangerous organic diseases with which the sufferer imagines himself to be afflicted. _ The attempt to introduce English pheasants into California f/om New Zealand, which had formerly failed, has again been made. A late steamer took up a number of birds. The Bullet- JV&ds says:— Dr. Kestevan, or Nelson, advertises his scale of charges as follows ;— Visit (one mile radius) 2s, beyond Is per mile extra ; medicine Is 6d ; advice at surgery, Is 6d; medicine Is 6dmidwifery, one guinea. And yet the Friendly Societies of this town had no response other than of local origin to their invitation for a medical officer, although " doctors " command " a guinea " a visit here, and five guineas for an accouchement.
