DEATH OF VIC TOR EMMANUEL.
CRUSHING DEFEAT OF THE TURKS. London, January 10. Russian forces hare crossed the Balkans at Kiztepe, near the Iron Gate, on fche direcfc road from Osman Bazar. The King of Italy is dead. In a telegram from the Grand Duke ISacholas it is announced that General Radetsky, after desperate fighting yesterday, captured Shipka Pass with the whole of the Turkish forces, consisting of 41 battalions of infantry, ten batteries of artillery, and one regiment of cavalry. Prince Mirsky occupies Resanlik. General Skobeloff holds Shipka Pass. Tho Russians having forced. Trojan Pass, took the Turks who occupied Shipka in the ' .rear. (Special.) London, January 10. King Victor Emmanuel died after three days' fever. The surgeons bled him. He received the last sacrament. The Pope scut two chamberlains with the Papal benediction. It is stated that if it had uot been for his own illness, the Pope would have gone himself. There is general mourning throughout Italy. Prince Humbert bas been proclaimed King. It is believed he entertains very different political views from those held by the late King. The Russians have forced Trojan Pass, :and have 60,0 0 men south of the Balkans. Mehemet Ali has left for Russian headquarters with power to arrange an armistice. Stanley has reached Brindisi. The Eenian military prisoners have been ■released. The Manchester murderers are •detained.
