THE ROBBERY OF JUDGE GRESSON.

The particulars of the robbery of Judge Gresaon, at Galie, are these:— The learned judge kept hia money in a desk, and at Galle he carefully inspecteJ the transhipment of his luggage, including the deßk, from the Pekin lo the boat he had hired, and from thence to tbe Siam. Having ascertained the number of his cabin, he saw all his luggage sent up the gangway from the boat on to the steamer, and ordered hie bod-room steward to lock his cabin. The judge then went on shore, and after making some excursions in the neighborhood of Galle, he returned to the chip, and on boarding her heard hia name called out, He was told that a box belonging to him had arrived, and required payment. On going to his cabin, he found his deßk missing. On returning to the saloon the desk was handed to him, evidently tampered with He brought it to tbe captain's cabin, and found on examination that eight £10 notes and three £5 notes of the Bunk of England (stamped with the Bank of New Zealand stamp, dated 4th October, 1877), together with drafts for a considerable amount on binks in New ZealanJ, were missing. Payment for the latter was stopped. Upon the advice of the captain. Judge Gressonat once made inquiries for the person who desired to be payed for bringing tbn box to him. No one of the score of the colored persons on fleck replied. It is supposed that in place of the desk b*iog scut to tbe oabin, it was passed to confederates who swarmed on board during the transhipment of passengers. The curious part is that the desk, containing many other papers of value, was returned to the ship.
