Wellington, Monday. It is understoon that Colonel Reader succeeds Colonel Moule as Under-Secretary for Defence.
Port Chalmers, Saturday. The ship Canterbury arrived to-day from Glasgow, bringing 20 saloon , passeDgers and 279 Government immigrants. She left on the 28th Sept., and when in lat. __degs. S., long. 102deg. E., sighted seven large icebergs. She has two cases of typhoid fever on board, >j which made its appearance twelve days ago. Three deaths (1 adult and 2 children) occurred during the voyage.
Lyttelton, Saturday. Sailed— Ship Rangitekei, for London, with a cargo of wool, wheat, and tallow, valued at £91,000.
Dunedin, Saturday!. Mr. W. D. Murison, editor of the Otago Daily Times, died this morning after a long and painful illness.
Ministers are being deluged with deputations, principally on local matters. Mr. Macandrew promised to hold a conference with the fishermen relative to the amendment of the Fishers Act.
